Having a stressful day? Nobody listens and everything seems to be chaotic? Breath in, breath out and know that it’ll all be better soon. The best you can do in a stressful situation is pay attention to yourself. Here’s 9 things that will help you stay grounded and relaxed.

  1. Take a long bath. It doesn’t matter how much you have to get done right now, nor does it matter that you’ve got a deadline early tomorrow morning. Just take an hour or two to take care of yourself. Indulge and don’t feel guilty. Remember that work never ends, you never get it done, it just keeps coming. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil in the warm water and just relax.
  2. Don’t make too many promises. Yes, I know, sometimes it’s easier said than done, but you have to let go of your over-achiever attitude. Don’t make more commitments that you can handle. Prioritize your time and projects better and you’ll thank yourself for doing it.
  3. Be optimistic. You can’t control everything, but you can control the way you feel. However hard and absurd that may sound, it is true. You can dictate the way you feel about what is going on in your life. Make an effort and choose to see things in a different light. Plus, everybody likes to be around happy people and nobody enjoys the company of a grumpy cat…
  4. Sleep 8 hours a night. Sleeping energizes you, it improves your memory and regenerates your skin. It’s also scientifically proven that people who sleep 7 or 8 hours a night, live longer. Now how about that? It certainly is a good enough reason for me to sleep 8 hours a night.
  5. Avoid too much coffee, black tea and energy drinks. They might be refreshing sometimes but if you find yourself drinking too much coffee, black tea and energy drinks, you’d better stop. All these beverages contain neuro-stimulators like caffeine and theo-bromine, which are proven to heighten stress.
  6. Declutter your home. Having too many things lying around the house feels exhausting. It may sound weird, but decluttering your house will feel incredibly relaxing. Not to mention you can help people in need by giving away all those things you don’t need (and that you probably even forgot about having).

And remember, music is your friend, turn the radio on and listen to your favorite songs.
